Giving Us Festive Glamour and Festive Cheer, A Holiday Capsule Dropped by Matty Bovan Is Here
During the summer while many of us were on furlough or even worse, unemployed, Matty Bovan was busy working away in his mum's garden shed in Yorkshire (as usual) working on his first-ever Christmas holiday capsule! (Not as usual.)
It's worth noting that the capsule, featuring special edition T-shirts, sweatshirts, customised joggers and drawings, is entirely handmade (as anyone familiar with Bovan's work would expect it to be.) The young designer has also thoughtfully made holiday scarves using thin deadstock knits as well as thick ones to keep us warm whether we're in or out; adopting a UK-tier friendly approach to life under the new lockdown rules announced yesterday.
The capsule collection also includes work from the beloved designer's mother, Plum Bovan, who designed a selection of earrings, kilt pins with crystals and jewelled baseball caps.
Matty Bovan said of the collection:
'This is my first ever BOVAN holiday capsule! Red, green and gold are some of my all-time fave colours, and I've pushed them together to make these holiday looks, using specially drawn character illustrations and my new F.O.E logo on T-shirts and sweatshirts in a very limited edition run. Collaborating with my mum on one-off hats, kilt pins and earrings, was super fun, adding texture and movement to the overall capsule. There are special edition scarves using deadstock knits, and the holiday cards feature unique illustrations from this capsule, then hand-customised, with each set coming with gold metallic envelopes, perfect for the season or any time of year.'
After spending summer perfecting the capsule's details, BOVAN, launched in August alongside imagery of the designer himself using a self-timer to showcase the exclusive pieces, all modelled, styled and worn by Bovan; the photographs ended up providing a visual diary of lockdown life. The polaroids trace Bovan's journey through lockdown, matching his 'Handmade in Yorkshire' ethos to the pace of 2020 - to slow down and invest in yourself and your clothes.
