A brand new award will recognise digital fashion design in the metaverse, launching with an immersive virtual experience on the platform Roblox featuring shoppable Gucci assets.

The Fashion Awards, taking place this evening in London, will present the Fashion Award for Metaverse Design for the first time. Created in partnership with Roblox, the gaming platform, they have also created an immersive experience to mark the occasion. Gucci designer Alessandro Michele will present the award on the platform in the form of an avatar.

Roblox selected five digital fashion creators from their community; GENKROCO, inkwaves, Reverse_Polarity, Sparklings and cSapphire, who has been named the winner. The virtual experience later this evening will allow viewers a unique look into one of fashion's most important events. Users will also be invited to try on digital items created exclusively for the night by Gucci, running until 7 December, 2021. All proceeds go to the BFC Foundation.

Christina Wootton, VP of Brand Partnerships for Roblox said in a statement: 'The next generation of designers are dressing avatars, and they are doing it on Roblox where anyone can be a creator, starting with their own online identity. Fashion is about what’s next and finding new voices with clear visions, and this talent is emerging in the metaverse...This recognition from a powerful fashion institution declares loud and clear that this is the space to watch for future fashion trends and talent.'
