Everything You Need To Know About Dior Men's X ERL
Presented on the boardwalk of California’s famed Venice Beach back in May, Kim Jones’ knack for collaboration took new heights with Dior Men’s Spring 2023 collection. Guest designed by Eli Russell Linnetz of ERL, the capsule collection dubbed ‘California Couture’ reinvented LA style with the maison’s couture techniques and signature silhouettes. Inspired by the energy of late 90s skate culture, Linnetz brought his signature use of bold graphics and vibrant colours to Jones' streetwear-imbued designs for a collaboration like no other.
You only need to look at Linnetz’s CV to understand why the modern day renaissance man would be the perfect partner for Jones. While he’s now best known for bold designs, the CFDA American Emerging Designer of the Year nominee previously held a slew of creative jobs outside of fashion. Before founding his eponymous label, Linnetz was a creative director for Lady Gaga, directed music videos, and produced music for the likes of Teyana Taylor and Kid Cudi. Like Jones, the emerging talent has always looked to streetwear as a primary inspiration, with both creatives previously collaborating with Nike.
Hailing from Venice in California himself, Linnetz reimagined the styles he grew up with for this one-off Dior Men's capsule. With LA streetwear in mind, the creative duo crafted Bermuda shorts in acid wash denim, and Dior’s latest covetable kicks - the B23 Skater Sneaker. A tribute to the free-spirited nature of the West Coast, a recurring motif throughout the capsule collection is an ocean wave crashing on hoodies and sweatshirts alike. Dior motifs like the instantly recognisable Cannage quilt were also reimagined as down jackets and on the signature saddle bag.
