Dior Goes Electro-Cute with S/S 22 Campaign
Spring has officially sprung at Dior with Chiuri's new RTW campaign. The campaign images, shot by Brigitte Niedermair, are heavily inspired by the work of pioneering Italian artist Anna Paparatti, who has been making her polychromatic work since the 1960s. Close up photos of a slim wrist holding a scaled-down version of the Lady Dior bag also reference Paparatti's contemporary, the detail-obsessed painter Domenico Gnoli.
The mesmerising campaign video, directed by Dior favourite Fabien Baron and soundtracked by Daft Punk's Around the World, pumps up the already vibrant pop-art feel of the collection, with pert little miniskirts and box-cut jackets that are very youthquake on Carnaby Street. Featuring hits of bright colour and angular choreography, the film references back to last September's S/S 22 Dior catwalk and its Paparatti-inspired geometric board-game set.
In the ongoing turbulence of our modern world, a collection that points to the optimism of psychedelic counterculture and its potential for social change feels like the invigorating jolt we need right now.
