In a surprise twist of events, the designer will exist the Kering-owned house.

Despite making Bottega Veneta one of the decade's breakthrough brands, favoured by Gen-Z consumers and celebrity clientele alike, Daniel Lee will exit the Italian label, conglomerate Kering announced this afternoon. It's a move that has taken the industry by surprise, given the commercial success of Lee's intrecciato slides and handbags. In 2019, Lee made history by scooping four Fashion Awards; this year he is nominated at Designer of the Year. He's also up for International Designer of the Year across both Women's and Men's at the CFDA Fashion Awards this evening.

Debuting his first collection in December 2018, followed by his first runway show for A/W 19, Lee unveiled his most recent collection Salon 03 less than a month ago as part of a new strategy whereby the brand show separately from the official fashion schedule, having also wiped their Instagram account, instead releasing digital journals.

Bottega Veneta and Lee's future plans are yet to be announced.
