It’s easy to feel jaded when it comes to fashion’s sustainability efforts. After all, the notoriously secretive industry has made it next to impossible to separate the eco-conscious innovators from the greenwashing imitators. Well, Coachtopia is looking to shine a light on the work they're doing in building a more circular fashion industry with their new docuseries, ‘The Road to Circularity’.
Hosted by visual storyteller, sustainable fashion advocate and Coachtopia community member Aditi Mayer, the series promises not to hold back in illuminating aspects of the fashion industry rarely seen by public eyes. The first episode sees Mayer travel to India to discover how one of Coach’s leather manufacturers is utilising leather scraps in innovative new ways. While a showcase of sustainable efforts, at the heart of the series is uncovering the stories of the global fashion community driven by a singular goal; a greener tomorrow.
‘Since the founding of Coachtopia, we’ve been working closely with a wide range of inspiring young leaders through our Beta Community — and we have heard how frustrating fashion’s lack of transparency can be to this generation,’ explains the head of Coachtopia Joan Silverstein. ‘We’re excited to share our work-in-progress because we know that to tackle climate change, we can’t be afraid to take bold if imperfect steps — and to be honest about how far we have to go. It’s our way of using brand storytelling to shed light on bigger issues and to spark conversations that have an impact beyond Coachtopia’.
Coachtopia was established last year as Coach’s sustainable sister brand focusing on creative ways to promote circularity within the fashion industry. This has meant not only working with scrap materials to reduce waste but working with Web3 technology to ensure traceability in their product lifecycles. As ‘The Road to Circularity’ continues to trace the problems and possibilities within sustainable fashion initiatives, it’ll be interesting to see how the brand continues to drive the eco-conscious conversation.
