Ahead of Chanel's annual Métiers d’art show, which honours the work and craft of the luxury house's artisans, artistic director Virginie Viard has called upon the REMEMBERS Studio for a series of animated films and illustrations.
The annual Métiers d'art show exists to honour the craftsmanship of Chanel's spectacular artisans, appreciating their involvement in helping the French house thrive. A tradition that first started in 2002, the annual event serves to commemorate the eleven specialist workshops that Chanel has held close since 1984.
Ahead of the show this year - which will take place at le19M on 7 December - Chanel's revered artistic director Virgine Viard has called upon the Remembers Studio to make a series of animated films and illustrations, building an air of suspense leading up to the 2021/2022 showcase, predicted to be nothing short of a grand spectacle.
Paying tribute to Chanel's creative dialogue with the Métiers d’art show, eight models close to the house, (Fran Summers, Pan Haowen, Mariam de Vinzelle, Rianne Van Rompaey, Loli Bahia, Mica Argañaraz, Lola Nicon and Akon Changkou), are all depicted in imaginary worlds, inspired by an equal number of the Métiers d’art workshops (Lesage, Lemarié, Massaro, Maison Michel, Goossens, Desrues, Atelier Montex and Lognon).
An animated version of le19M provides the backdrop of the artworks, which all are inspired as much by manga as by avant-garde animation, combining the symbols of the house, historic fashion savoir-faire and the unique architecture of le19M where dreams are made (but not without the help of Chanel's magnificent artisans).
