It was nothing short of a cultural vibe shift when Matthieu Blazy took the reins as Bottega Veneta’s creative director in 2021. He woke us up from fast fashion’s mind-numbing grip, reminding us that true luxury takes time. But as a cultural purveyor, Blazy did much more than revive traditional practices by collaborating with artisans around the world—he resurrected the cult gay magazine BUTT.

Oh yes, if it weren’t for Blazy, we wouldn’t have the legendary pink pages of BUTT to read an interview with the Pope’s gay tailor.

Alongside the pious interview with the Pope’s tailor and a selection of bulges from Melbourne, BUTT no. 36 also features an exclusive conversation with Elite star Omar Ayuso, and an dialogue between conceptual artist AA Bronson and porn pioneer Joel Someone. The issue also highlights Ryūdai Takano’s tender self-portrait series With Me, adding a deeply personal and reflective touch to the otherwise bold and boundary-pushing content.

Since its revival in 2022 with support from Bottega Veneta, BUTT magazine has continued its signature, no-holds-barred coverage of queer culture while spotlighting creatives like Troye Sivan and Arca. Issue no. 36 promises to be BUTT's thickest yet, blending salacious content with serious cultural commentary. True to form, the issue continues BUTT's bold approach to covering activism, sex work, and queer identity, toeing the line between humour and gravity.

By bringing BUTT back into the conversation, Blazy tapped into a specific subcultural moment, positioning Bottega Veneta as a brand that wasn’t just about luxury but also about engaging with cultural history in an unexpected and refreshing way.

BUTT no. 36 is available now at buttmagazine.com.
