The cult Antwerp brand Ann Demeulemeester has been announced as the special guest for the upcoming Pitti Immagine Uomo 101 in January 2022. The coveted spot at the men's trade show has previously played host to the likes of Thebe Magugu, Rick Owens and Jil Sander.
Following the brand's A/W 21 and S/S 22 collections, which placed a focus on Ann Demeulemeester's core DNA - think white shirts alla Patti Smith and loose black tailoring - the show promises to be a continuation of the brand's new chapter. Having been acquired by retailer Claudio Antonioli in 2020, the brand is now at the core of a new company, Dreamer's Factory. As part of Antonioli's ownership, he has introduced an anonymous design team in place of Demeulemeester's successor Sebastien Meunier, reduced wholesale, and placed a focus on core brand staples, linking the label's past, present and future to reposition it as a luxury fashion brand.
Lapo Cianchi, director of communication and events at Pitti Imagine, praised Demeulemeester's 'nonconformist approach' and 'her aptitude for renewal, while remaining faithful to a original intuition: the new pathway, set in motion by a visionary entrepreneur like Claudio Antonioli, builds upon these tendencies by undertaking an ideal dialogue with the founder and her standards.'
The show will take place at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence on 12 January, 2022.
