If there’s any brand that’s keen to print alive it’s Bottega Veneta. Since Matthieu Blazy was crowned creative director in 2021 the Italian heritage brand has been breathing new life into the world of print by supporting the circulation of cult favourite zines like Butt and Air Afrique. Still, it’s their very own fanzine that’s sure to pique the interest of Bottega and Blazy fans alike, with their latest edition breaking down the brand’s S/S 24 collection. From mood boards to behind-the-scenes images, Bottega Veneta’s fourth fanzine is the ultimate guide to Blazy’s creative process.
‘Summer 24 is an odyssey,’ explains Blazy. ‘It is a journey that is both free and hopeful. A connection to who you once were, who you would like to be and where you want to go. The fanzine allows any reader, anywhere, to join that journey, and to imagine and record their own escapes and adventures — whether in the world or their creativity’.
The limited-edition fanzine is divided into four volumes exploring the craftsmanship of Blazy’s S/S 24 collection. Enclosed in a printed slipcase adorned with the illustrated map featured on the runway show flooring, the fanzine becomes a tangible artefact of the collection's spirit of adventure and discovery. The publication not only features behind-the-scenes images but also includes sketches, stickers, and a travel notebook, inviting readers to embark on their own real and creative wanderings.
The immersive zine unravels the visionary designer’s process offering readers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the collection along with the Tokyo campaign shoot. Photographed by Alec Soth, a distinguished Magnum photographer renowned for his documentarian style. The fanzine transports readers to Tokyo's playgrounds adorned with whimsical structures in the shapes of animals, rocks, and mushrooms. Soth's lens captures the physicality and playfulness of these structures, echoing the material craft and boundless imagination woven into Matthieu Blazy's designs.
Matthieu Blazy's Summer 24 fanzine is not just a glimpse into the creative process; it's an invitation to explore the intersection of reality and fantasy, where material craft and dreams coalesce into a visual symphony. As readers navigate through the volumes, they embark on a journey inspired by Tokyo's playful landscapes, with Soth's photography capturing the essence of Blazy's imaginative universe.
To emphasise the brand’s dedication to keeping print alive, for the first time the Bottega Veneta fanzine will be made available not only in Bottega Veneta stores around the globe, but also in a selection of cult-favourite bookstores including Reading Room and Libreria Bocca in Milan; Yvon Lambert and Cahier Central in Paris; Climax, Claire de Rouen, and the ICA bookstore in London; Lulu & The Beanstalk in Dubai; Strand, McNally Jackson, and Mast in New York; Still Books, PDF, and The Phrase in Seoul; Tsutaya Books in Shanghai; and Komiyama, Watarium, and Tsutaya Books in Tokyo.
