Often relegated to the seedy nightclubs and performance art venues, the wild and wacky art of the UK's alternative drag scene is being brought to light with Bodybuilders. The photographic art project by creative maverick Alien (AKA @thealien.xyz) celebrates the distorted world of 30 eccentric artists and entertainers including London's very own Spooky kid. The limited edition tome tackles notions of the body in a collected display that crossed the boundaries of visual art, activism, and gender expression. The self-published work features two introductory texts written by author of Xenofeminism Helen Hester, and founder of premier queer London night Inferno, Lewis G. Burton.
Limited to 600 editions the provocative publication is launching across Europe with a host of events. The first taking place at Artwords Bookstore in London on 10 September, before launching at Transmission Gallery in Glasgow on 14 September. For those on the continent, Alien has launches planned in Berlin and Milan with dates in Paris and Melbourne to be confirmed.
