It's no secret that Balenciaga creative director Demna is a proud member and advocate of the LGBTIQ community. From inviting queer icons like Amanda Lepore to sit in the front row and having his husband, Loïk Gomez (better known as BFRND), walk the runway countless times, he's never been shy about his queer identity. Following up on last year's Pride collection, the Georgian designer has dreamed up a capsule and campaign titled Anybody Is Queer, dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the global queer community.
For the latest in the brand's efforts to champion LGBTIQ rights, Balenciaga has teamed up with Outright Action International for its Pride 2022 collection, with 15% of sales going to the advocacy group. As the only organisation of its kind with consultative status and a permanent presence at the United Nations, the human rights firm works at a global, regional and national level to end the persecution and inequality that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer people face.
The lineup consists of the brand's signature silhouettes (think fitted tops, oversized T-shirts and hoodies), playful accessories stamped with different graphics and a chart of flags representing the vast array of identities within the community. Accompanying the collection is a celebratory campaign fronted by a cast as diverse in their colour and sex as they are in their unique style, highlighting the reiteration that there is no one way to be queer.
Arriving just in time for Pride Month, you can view the entire campaign and collection live on the Balenciaga website.
