Usually, we argue that there is no such thing as a guilty pleasure. But if we had to pick one it would be our collective obsession with watching celebrity closet tours. Balenciaga clearly feels the same way because they're getting exclusive access to the wardrobes of some of today’s brightest stars.
In the spirit of MTV Cribs, Balenciaga showcases the closets of actress Nicola Peltz, model Paloma Elsesser, costume designer Patricia Field, and influencer Devon Lee Carlson. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Balenciaga party without Kim Kardashian who has officially been inducted into the Balenciaga hall-of-fame as a brand ambassador.
In a statement to the press yesterday, the reality star turned billionaire shape wear mogul said: 'For several years now, Balenciaga’s designs have been a part of my many looks – and some of my most iconic fashion moments. This historic fashion house embraces modernity, craftsmanship and takes an innovative approach to design under Demna. For me, this long-standing relationship is built on mutual trust and a commitment to doing what’s right. I’m excited about this next chapter for the brand and to become their ambassador.'
The campaign was shot by fashion’s favourite photographer duo Inez & Vinoodh. Their voyeuristic imagery pulls on our curiosity about the lives of today’s untouchables. Closets are framed like museums exhibiting an archive of the subjects’ coveted fashions. It’s a fitting way to showcase Balenciaga’s Le City Bag which was first introduced in 2000.
The latest iterations of the Le City continue to draw on the archival design. Supple Arena leather has long been famed for how it gets softer over time, while the original details, including vintage-inspired studs and laced zipper pulls, add a rebellious element to the design. Of course, it isn’t all about the Le City, with it being joined by Balenciaga’s other bags including the equally popular Le Cagole, and Hourglass. After all, today’s it-girls can’t commit to just one bag.
