With a judging panel made up of fashion's 21st century greats including designers Haider Ackermann, Virgil Abloh, Pierpaolo Piccioli and Casey Cadwallader as well as standout photographer Juergen Teller, the six winners of the Fashion Trust Arabia Prize have finally been announced.
This week saw Fashion Trust Arabia present their third annual prize in Doha, Qatar, at the National Museum. As guests gathered, they patiently awaited model Irina Shayk and Al Jazeera TV presenter Fairouz Ziani to present the award, whittling down the 24 designer finalists to a hand-picked selection of six designers, all hailing from either the Middle East, North Africa or Columbia.
The announced winners included ready-to-wear designer Zaid Affas and jewellery designer Alia Bin Omair and the luxury labels Port Tanger, Benchellal, El Tayeb Nation and A New Cross by designers Bilal Fellah, Mohamed Benchellal, Abdelgarder El Tayeb and Agustin Nicolas Rivero. Categories included Ready-to-Wear, Eveningwear, Accessories (Shoes & Handbags), Jewellery, Franca Sozzani Debut Talent Award with a new inclusion of the Guest Country Award, which was in partnership with Colombia.
So, what exactly is the prize, you ask? The announced winners will now receive financial support of up to $200,000 while also benefitting from an extensive mentorship program with key FTA partners, which includes a unique partnership with MatchesFashion, where you'll now be able to explore the collections of each finalist on the retailer's website over on matchesfashion.com.
SHOWstudio was founded on the premise of exploring the next generation of creative talent; having helped found and nurture the careers of designers Gareth Pugh, Rodarte and Mary Katrantzou, we can't wait to see what these six young talents will go on to do next.
