Are Holographic Shows The Future of Fashion?
Can you believe there's a digital avatar that cares about our world more than we do? This is thanks to MUTANI, the Antwerp-based digital fashion network, who presented a holographic fashion show at Amsterdam Fashion Week. The 'FUTURE FRONT ROW' has been proclaimed the first live holographic fashion show. After showcasing entirely digital models adorned in fluid, abstract, and animatic garments, a digital creature brought up concerns about ocean pollution through an impressive performance, choreographed by the artist Novaya Shey.
Moving in one direction, tugging in another, falling and rising, a narrative expressed by graceful movements, enabled the audience to grasp the environmental crisis through the dance's pure dynamics which were brought to life through motion capture and animation, in partnership with io50 Studio.
Designed by Shayli Harrison, one of MUTANI's founders, shimmering clothing, reminiscent of plastic bags found in the depths of the ocean became more than just an innovative garment. ‘Showcasing my collection through this medium only reveals a truth about the fashion show format. It is not just about the threads, but the stories woven within. It is the power to stir emotions that truly captivates,' says Harrison. While we don't know if digital fashion experiences will stir our emotions but they definitely have the power to make an audience reflect on their sustainable choices.
