Adidas and Craig Green Introduce The CG Scuba Stan

It seems like only yesterday London’s menswear maverick Craig Green teamed up with sportswear giant adidas Originals to announce the CG Kontuur I and CG Kontuur II. True to Green’s penchant for finding beauty in functional design, the wildly popular trainers were defined by their sleek retro-inspired silhouette kitted out with experimental flourish in the form of its treaded outsole. The release also marked the beginning of a fruitful creative partnership between the designer and the heritage brand. Well, the duo are joining forces for a sixth time with the introduction of the CG Scuba Stan offering Green’s take on the signature Stan Smith’s first introduced in 1965.
Craig Green’s aesthetic has always been rooted in finding balance between form and function with his affinity for workwear defining his career. Keeping utilitarian functionality at the forefront of his collaborations with adidas Originals, the CG Scuba Stan is no different. Building off on the CG Scuba Phormar that he introduced with his A/W 21 collection, this latest iteration features the unique Scuba outsole identified by its rounded ridges. The upper mimics the German sportswear brand’s iconic Stan Smith leather uppers making it only appropriate the style would come in three colourways, including beige, black, and the signature white and green of the originals. An ongoing motif throughout Green’s work, the silhouette is decked out with lace details that mirrors wraparound tension cord used in outdoor gear.
To showcase the innovative design in all its glory with a campaign created with photographer Dan Tobin Smith. The image-maker and long-time collaborator of Craig Green has been responsible for many of the brand's campaigns, including A/W 17, where he highlighted the designer's harrowing boat installations. For this latest campaign Smith showcases the CG Scuba Stan's sculptural silhouette emphasising the materials and contours of the trainers.
The adidas Originals and Craig Green CG Scuba Stan will be available on 31 October through adidas CONFIRMED and select retailers.
