Willy Chavarria

Brand

Willy Chavarria is a New York-based brand by fashion designer Willy Chavarria.

Chavarria studied art and graphic design at The Art Academy of San Francisco before designing for Nicholas Graham at Joe Boxer. He moved on to design for Ralph Lauren before starting his own eponymous label in 2015 which has since gone on to be stocked worldwide in retailers such as Barneys, Dover Street Market, Browns and more.

Chavarria became known for his distinct interpretation of men's fashion mixing race, politics, sexuality into 'elegant' apparel and was one of the first New York designers to cast only models of colour which fed into the notion of Chavarria using his shows for political expression. He has used his own platform as a designer to celebrate Latino influence in fashion.

In 2018, Chavarria was announced as a finalist for the International Woolmark Prize.
