Sindiso Khumalo

Sindiso Khumalo is a sustainable textile designer from Cape Town, South Africa.

Founder of their eponymous label, Khumalo's collections place an emphasis on responsible textiles and African storytelling, drawing upon her Zulu and Ndebele heritage and Kwazulu Natal, where she is from. All collection textiles are designed by hand, using watercolours and collage.

Khumalo previously studied architecture at the University of Cape Town, before moving to London to undertake a Masters in Design for Textile Futures at Central Saint Martins. Showing their first collection in 2015, Khumalo went on to become a joint winner of the LVMH Prize in 2020. They are also the recipient of the Green Carpet Fashion Awards' Independent Designer title, and were part of the Net-a-Porter Vanguard Programme 2021. Collaborations include IKEA, Vans and Woolworths South Africa.

Khumalo presented their S/S 21 collection at Milan Fashion Week, and their work has been exhibited at Royal Festival Hall in London, The Smithsonian Museum of African Art in Washington, Louisiana Museum in Denmark and the Zeitz Mocaa Museum, Cape Town.
