Sandra Backlund is a fashion designer, living and working in Sweden. She graduated from Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm in 2004, working full-time on her own label since then. Backlund is known for handcrafted knitwear with sculptural elements, approaching fashion more like a sculptor than a tailor. In 2007, Backlund was a winner at the Festival International de la Mode et de la Photographie at Hyères, and in the same year collaborated with Louis Vuitton on their knitwear for A/W 07. Backlund was selected by Franca Sozzani of Vogue Italia for the Protegé Project presented in Florence in January 2008. In 2009, Backlund received NewGen sponsorship from the British Fashion Council for the first time. After A/W 13, Backlund stepped back from showing collections in order to have a family. She collaborated with Urbanears in 2018.
Backlund has been featured in publications including 100 New Fashion Designers by Hywel Davies, Basic Fashion Design: Textiles and Fashion by Jenny Udale, and Textiles Now by Drusilla Cole.
