Athens-born Romina Karamenea studied fashion design and product development at Nottingham Trent University. She continued to study a postgraduate diploma in Innovative Pattern Cutting at Central Saint Martins in London. After graduating, Karamenea worked with designers including Clements Ribeiro, Robert Cary-Williams, and Preen, before launching her signature brand in 2005. She has exhibited twice at ON|OFF and the White show in Milan. Following Karamenea’s presentation at London Fashion Week in September 2006, her first capsule collection was bought by B store, and figures including Isabella Blow, Franca Sozzani and Cameron Silver commissioned her work. Her work has been featured in publications including WWD, Vogue and Surface; and was one of Hywel Davies' 100 New Fashion Designers in his 2008 book. Karamenea closed her namesake label in 2011.
In March 2007 she was appointed Creative Director for StyleShake, an e-commerce bespoke brand, later working for Oshun as Creative and Production Director. She also worked with the V&A in 2010 on creative set design. In 2014, Karamenea founded the educational institution, the Romina Karamenea Fashion School, in Athens, Greece. This comes after years of lecturing at Morley College and the Architectural Association, brandbuilding as Fashion Director of myfashioncircle, and mentoring as part of 100mentors.
