Phoebe English

Designer

Phoebe English is a British fashion designer and head of her eponymous brand of women's and men's wear. English graduated from the Central Saint Martins MA in February 2011, winning the L’Oréal Professional Creative Award, the Ungaro Bursary and the Chloé Award. She went on to be named one of Forbes' 30 Under 30 in 2015. She has worked across a wide variety of disciplines and organisations and regularly guest lectures in leading universities.

Having started in womenswear, in 2016, Phoebe English started a menswear line, later announcing in 2018 that her men's and women's wear would be shown together for S/S 19.

Since Dover Street Market stocked her first collection in 2012, the designer has produced a number of installations for the retail concept, such as Ai Wei Wei transforming an A/W 14 look for Dover Street Market New York. English's work has been exhibited in art institutions - 30 puppets outfitted in miniature versions of her designs were displayed at English’s V&A Fashion in Motion in 2017 - and she has hosted her own exhibitions as collection presentations, such as Inanimate, Animate. (Only) Half The Reflection at the Morley Gallery in London for A/W 19.

The brand is entirely made in England and pieces are created with close attention to detail and quality, rejecting mass-made or ‘fast’ fashion. English has made a firm commitment to sustainability, including reusing waste material from previous collections.
