Phipps is a sustainable menswear label by Spencer Phipps, mixing technical sportswear and workwear in sustainable materials such as recycled nylon and organic cotton. Phipps graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City in 2008 with a nomination as 'designer of the year' for his final year collection. The San Francisco-born designer held the position of menswear designer at both Marc Jacobs and Dries van Noten - the first American menswear designer to do so - before he went founded his namesake brand in 2017, in reaction to green-washing in the industry.
Spencer Phipps operates with a traceable supply chain, selecting manufacturers who recycle their waste appropriately, re-use treatable water, use alternative energy as much as possible, and follow fair trade labor practices. Spencer Phipps was selected as a finalist for the 2019 LVMH Prize, and stockists include SSENSE, MyTheresa and MatchesFashion.
