Naomi Campbell

Model

Naomi Campbell is a British model. After signing with the Synchro modelling agency at age 15, Naomi Campbell has gone on to become one of Britain’s most successful models.

On her 16th birthday, she made the front cover of British ELLE and became the first black model to appear on British and French Vogue. Campbell went on to feature on countless front covers photographed by leading photographers like Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Herb Ritts and Steven Meisel. She became synonymous with the supermodel phenomenon when she walked down the Versace Autumn/Winter 1991 runway to George Michael's Freedom! '90 alongside fellow supermodels Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington. Together, they had all previously starred in the music video. Campbell has also featured in other music videos, notably Bob Marley's Is This Love video as a seven-year-old, and Michael Jackson's In the Closet video, shot by Herb Ritts in 1992.

Besides Gianni Versace, Naomi Campbell has also walked the runway for Azzedine Alaïa, Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano, Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen, Valentino, Chanel, Vivienne Westwood among many others, and is notorious for her catwalk.

Other accomplishments count the Fashion for Relief charity organisation, which Campbell founded in 2005, in which she organises fundraising fashion shows to benefit victims of global disasters. The organisation is reported to have raised £4.5 million. She continues to use her influence as a leading fashion figure to raise awareness for various charity campaigns including Breast Cancer Awareness and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.

In 2017, Naomi Campbell joined the British Vogue team under leadership of Edward Enninful as Contributing Editor. She remains a trailblazer for black models and spokesperson on diversity issues and was awarded the Fashion Icon prize at The Fashion Awards in 2019.
