Marilyn Manson is an American rock musician and actor from Ohio, United States. He is known for his controversial stage persona and image as lead singer of the eponymous band Marilyn Manson. Manson was born and raised as Brian Hugh Warner. He began his career in rock journalism and his stage name was created from juxtaposing the names of two 1960s American cultural icons, actress Marilyn Monroe and criminal cult leader Charles Manson. Together with Daisy Berkowitz, he formed the band Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids in 1991. The band has since garnered a cult following through their uniquely theatrical performances. Manson's songs have been nominated for several Grammy awards and, in 1999, he won an MTV Award for best cinematography for the video of his song The Dope Show.
