Lucy Dawson

Charity

Lucy Dawson campaigns to raise awareness of encephalitis and works to increase the visibility of disability within fashion and the media. When Dawson was 20 years old, she fell ill with a rare brain disease named encephalitis. Unfortunately, this was misdiagnosed as a mental breakdown and Dawson was placed in a psychiatric ward for 3 months - Further complications and a terrible accident left to a third degree burn which subsequently paralysed Lucy in her lower left leg. Despite Dawson's uphill struggle over the past couple of years; learning to talk, walk, read and write again, she ended up graduating from university with a 2:1 in criminology. Since, Dawson has turned her efforts to raising awareness of the disease that nearly killed her as well as normalising disabled bodies through much of her work on social media. Dawson is an ally of the encephalitis society and supports several charities who aid the representation of disabled people.
