Hiromix is a photographer who was born in Tokyo in 1976. After leaving school in 1995, she was awarded the Nobuyoshi Araki Prize and the New Cosmos of Photography Prize, sponsored by Canon, with her book entitled School Days containing a series of colour prints captured with an automatic compact camera. In September 1996, Hiromix's first book, Girls Blue was published and sold a record number of copies. She has held various exhibitions including HIROMIX at the Shibuya Parco Gallery in Tokyo in 1997.
Hiromix has contributed to publications including i-D, Numero, Purple, Visionaire, Dazed & Confused, The Face and Liberation. She has also been working as a film director since 1995, and has directed Japanese music videos, a TV commercial and a short TV programme. Hiromix has also written song lyrics and modelled in the Yves Saint Laurent perfume campaign for Live Jazz, as well as making a cameo appearance in Sofia Coppola's feature film Lost in Translation.
