Glenn Martens
Fashion Designer
Glenn Martens is a fashion designer, born in Bruges, Belgium in 1983. He has been the creative director of Diesel since 2020, reviving the Italian lifestyle brand's covetable status for a new generation.
Martens studied interior architecture before moving to the Royal Academy of Antwerp's fashion course. Graduating in 2008, Martens worked for designers including Bruno Pieters, Yohan Serfaty and as a junior designer for Jean Paul Gaultier. Shortly thereafter, Martens founded his eponymous label which debuted in Paris and ran for three seasons before he took over the brand Y-Project in 2013, following founder Serfaty's passing.
In 2017, Martens's work at Y-Project was awarded the ANDAM Grand Prize, earning the brand substantial financial support and a year-long mentorship under Francesca Bellettini, CEO and president of Yves Saint Laurent.
In 2020, the Only The Brave group helmed by Renzo Russo announced Martens as the first creative director to oversee all of the Diesel brand. In the years since, Diesel has been a key driver for growth for the group. Viral ready-to-wear pieces include the B-Berny belt skirt, or have featured collaborations with Savage x Fenty, the Tom of Finland Foundation and Durex. Martens has created a dialogue with Diesel's audience through contemporary and engaging forms of communication, whether that be inviting the public to their runway shows featuring extreme set designs including the world's biggest blow up doll, live streaming from Diesel HQ or dropping NFT collections.
Martens returned to the Jean Paul Gaultier atelier as their Haute Couture Guest Designer for Spring 2022, to great critical acclaim. In September 2024, Martens announced that he would be stepping down from his role of creative director at Y/Project after 11 years.
