Fendi

Brand

Founded in Rome in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo Fendi as a small boutique selling leather and fur goods, Fendi is today one of Italy's most famous fashion houses.

In 1965, Karl Lagerfeld was appointed Fendi's artistic director - a role he held until his death on 19 February 2019, making it the longest collaboration between a fashion house and a designer in fashion history.

Fendi became the first fashion house to stage a catwalk show on the Great Wall of China in 2007, featuring 88 looks on predominantly Asian models, and an 85 metre-long runway.

Following Lagerfeld's passing in 2019, Silvia Venturini Fendi was promoted to creative director, from creative director of accessories, menswear and children's wear. As granddaughter of the founders, she is the only family member still working at the historic Italian business. She also created one of the house's best known items: the 'Baguette' handbag.

In September 2020, LVMH announced that Kim Jones would become artistic director of haute couture, ready-to-wear and fur collections for women, working in tandem with Venturini Fendi.
