Inspired by her daughter Gaby, Donna Karan founded DKNY in 1984 as a younger, more affordable, fast fashion diffusion line to run alongside her existing Donna Karan New York label. Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, founders of New York-based brand Public School, served as creative directors of DKNY 2015-2017, following Karan's departure from her company to focus on her Urban Zen foundation and brand. LVMH sold Donna Karan International, with the DKNY brand, to the G-III Apparel Group in 2016.
