Amado uses his skills as a choreographer to tell the stories of black queer people through ballet. As a filmmaker, Amado is also deeply influenced by black queer writers like James Baldwin, the structure of musical films from the 1970s and '80s, and the aesthetics of 1990s American hip-hop culture.
Amado's work lies at the intersection of 'fine art, intellectual queer, and ghetto aesthetics'. He approaches choreography, film and fashion with a nuanced, inclusive mindset where audiences are given the opportunity to expand their paradigm as it relates to the versatility of the black body, as well as questioning what the art form truly represents.
