Creative Maverick

The Honourable Daphne Guinness is an artist of Irish, English, and French descent and an heiress of the Guinness family. Guinness is the daughter of Jonathan Guinness, 3rd Baron Moyne and his second wife, Suzanne Lisney. She was raised between Ireland, England, Paris and Spain, in an artists’ colony in Cadaques with Salvador DalÍ and the Surrealists. In the mid-1980s, she lived in New York City with her sister Catherine Guinness, a companion of Andy Warhol. Guinness married Spyros Niarchos in 1987 at the age of 19: they had three children, but divorced in 1999.

Growing up, Guinness studied life drawing, drama and music and has since worked with photographers such as David La Chapelle, Steven Klein and Nick Knight. In 2004, Guinness produced an Oscar-nominated short film; Cashback, directed by Sean Ellis, going on to direct her own short film Phenomenology of Body, followed by another short Mnemosyne in 2009. She has also starred in a film, The Murder of Jean Seberg, directed by photographer and filmmaker Joe Lally.

Guinness has designed a range of clothing with Dover Street Market and released an eponymous fragrance in 2009 with Comme des Garçons. She has collected fashion, specifically haute couture, for a number of years, and in 2010 bought the entire wardrobe of the late Isabella Blow, in her owns words, to 'prevent Issie’s possessions becoming mere morbid memorabilia… to preserve it'. She has a fascination with armour, and in 2006 approached her great friend Shaun Leane to create a gold and diamond arm glove. Titled 'Contra Mundum' or 'Against The World', this handcrafted, intricately made objet d’art took five years to create and develop and is perhaps one of the most technically advanced pieces in the world of artisan jewels.

Additionally, Guinness founded the Isabella Blow Foundation, a charitable foundation seeks to honour the memory of Isabella Blow, to support aspiring art and fashion students and to facilitate further research in the fields of depression and mental health.
