Chomwan Weeraworawit was born in Thailand, but raised and educated mostly in the UK with stints in Indonesia and Paris. Weeraworawit trained as a lawyer in London but has swayed from the legal profession to engage in more creative endeavours in fashion, art and film.
She completed her PhD on intellectual property and the textiles and fashion industry in developing countries at King’s College London. Between starting and finishing the PhD, she co-founded and creative directed a fashion label called Nsha, and worked for a large public media network in Thailand where she produced films and became acquainted with Thai independent filmmakers.
She co-founded the Film on the Rocks Yao Noi Foundation. Together with co-founder Nat Sarasas, she produced the first Film on the Rocks Yao Noi festival on a remote island called Yao Noi in Thailand in March 2012. The first edition was co-curated by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Tilda Swinton, and featured a floating cinema (the original Archipelago Cinema) created in collaboration with an architect for the festival. Since then, she co-founded Mysterious Ordinary, a creative and cultural consultancy that specialises in working with filmmakers, designers, artists and brands. She is also the co-founder of fashion label Philip Huang.
Weeraworawit also occasionally writes about art, film, fashion and people who inspire her. Her writing can be found in the Bangkok Post, Purple Magazine and 2Mag.
