Charlene Bagcal
Filmmaker
Charlene Bagcal is a commercial and film director, screenwriter, and photographer. She began her early visual career as a painter, putting on her first exhibition at age 18. She later worked as a graphic designer, before focusing her career on fashion photography and creative direction.
In 2012, her fashion film, Solace for SLANG (Colombia), ranked on the prestigious Fashion Film Network's top 10 film list. In the same year, her fashion film, Dreamland for DRESSLAB (Spain), was chosen as an Official Selection at the La Jolla Fashion Film Festival. She also teamed with musician, Chelsea Wolfe (Sargent House), on Flatlands: A Converse x Decibel collaboration that marked her debut as a music video director.
Her surrealist and emotional sensibility combine conceptual expression with a strong sense of human psychology and sensuality. Her characters often possess stoic behaviour, challenging both their fragility and strength.
In 2015, she co-founded LA-based creative production company, REMA, and in 2017, she received a development deal with Eli Roth's studio, CryptTV, for her horror short film, The Neighbors. Following this, in 2018 Charlene became a Ryan Murphy TV HALF Initiative Director Fellow on American Horror Story.
