Bess NYC
Artist
Bess NYC was an Instagram moniker and store name used by artist and creative director Doug Abraham. @BessNYC4 gained a cult following through Abraham's re-appropriation of iconic fashion campaigns. Commenting on fashion and pop culture, fusing brand iconography and found images from the internet of animals, body parts and bondage, his subversive aesthetic led to Instagram disabling the account on several occasions. In 2014, he received the Award for Fashion Instagrammer of the Year from the CFDA.
The name Bess NYC was first used by Abraham for a store in New York, which offered unique DIY and vintage pieces of art and clothing. The moniker @BessNYC4 was born after Abraham and his team turned to Instagram to create images for the launch of their apparel line for the store.
Abraham's commercial work includes Givenchy's S/S 16 lookbook and Adidas' relaunch of the Gazelle featuring a re-invented image of a young Kate Moss wearing a maroon pair of the iconic trainers.
