Steven Claydon

Artist

Steven Claydon is an artist and musician. He studied at Chelsea School of Art in the late 1980s and then Central Saint Martins in the late 1990s. He was a founding member of the band Add N to (X), with Anne Shenton and Barry Smith who worked together in what they saw as part of the lineage of electronic innovation forged since the 1950s by the likes of Edgar Varese, Kraftwerk, Bruce Hack, Walter Carlos, Grandmaster Flash, Leon Theremin and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. They coined the term 'avant-hard' to describe their electronic output. Add N to (X) were released on Mute records until they disbanded in 2003. Claydon was then involved with the band Relaxed Muscle and recently teamed up with Mark Leckey and Kieron Livingstone to perform as Jack to Jack. Claydon made a body of art work in collaboration with artist Neil Chapman, until recently when he began working on solo projects. Claydon has exhibited at greengrassi, Hoxton Distillery and HOTEL in London.
