Richard Nicoll

Fashion Designer

Richard Nicoll was an Australian, London-based fashion designer. He graduated in 2002 from Central Saint Martins with an MA in womenswear, and his graduation collection was bought by Dolce & Gabbana. He was subsequently awarded a bursary to set up his own label. He developed a distinctive technique that explored a method of twisting fabric combined with draping influenced by French couturier Madame Grès, resulting in a sculptural aesthetic to his collections.

Nicoll collaborated with photographers including Jason Evans and Norbert Schoerner, and worked for Lanvin and Louis Vuitton under Marc Jacobs. Later, the designer would briefly take to the helms of Cerruti and Jack Wills. His namesake label showed on schedule at London Fashion Week from 2005, launching first under Fashion East. Nicoll would go on to present menswear from 2012, before closing his label in 2015 due to financial difficulties.

Nicoll returned to Australia where he consulted for Woolmark. In October 2016, Nicholl passed away, shortly after being recruited as creative director for Adidas sportswear.
