British luxury fashion house Burberry was founded in 1856 by 21-year-old Thomas Burberry. The brand's distinctive red, camel and black check was introduced as a lining to its famed trench coats in the 1920s, later appearing on a variety of products from scarves and umbrellas to luggage.

Christopher Bailey joined the house in 2001 as design director, becoming creative director in 2004 and chief creative officer in 2009. Following then-CEO Angela Arendts' departure, Bailey added CEO to his title. In 2017, Marco Gobbetti took over from Bailey as CEO, and in 2018 Bailey left the house entirely after 17 years.

Italian designer Riccardo Tisci succeeded Bailey as chief creative officer. Tisci's first venture for the house was to introduce a brand new logo, created in collaboration with graphic designer Peter Saville. Tisci also launched the first monogram collection for the house.
