Live from Paris, editor Hetty Mahlich and editorial assistant Joshua Graham round up the key takeaways from the Paris S/S 24 menswear shows.

Louis Vuitton

Day one of Paris fashion week started with a bang thanks to Pharrell Williams’ debut as creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear. Mahlich notes it was a star-studded spectacle with the likes of Jay-Z, Beyoncé and Rihanna in attendance. Still, that didn’t overshadow the designers instantly covetable collection with the clothes just as desirable as the bags.

Paris S/S 24 Menswear: Day One

Botter, Bianca Sauders and Wales Bonner

Reframing prexisting perceptions defined day two. Beginning with Botter, Mahlich explains the brands take on ‘Caribbean Couture’ which was informed by voodoo this season with looks featuring makeshift necklaces crafted from discarded doll heads. Editorial assistant Joshua Graham joins in to discuss Bianca Saunder’s stripped back presentation that explored the ephemerality of clothing with paper shirts and tape trying everhthinf together. The two then sound off on the regal sportswear of Wales Bonner.

Paris S/S 24 Menswear: Day Two

Givenchy, Rick Owens, Dries Van Noten

What does the modern menswear wardrobe look like? While vastly different collections aesthetically, Mahlich and Graham agree that at the core of Givenchy, Rick Owens, and Dries Van Noten is an elegant simplicity that’s all-too relevant to today’s consumer tastes. Owens’ all-black collection was a departure from the conceptual affairs he’s showcased in recent years. Similarly, our editorial team agree that a refined edit is what made Matthew Williams’ most recent menswear fare so strong. The duo conclude my dissecting Dries’ sensual silhouettes complete with fuzzy slippers.

Paris S/S 24 Menswear: Day Three

Dior Men's, Kenzo

For fashion fans it’s easy to think that menswear is inferior to womenswear due to a limited array of silhouette and embellishment. Well, Kim Jones is changing that at Dior Men according to our editorial duo who praise the artistic director how his expert referencing of the maison’s couture archive. While his fifth anniversary show inspired, our team agree that Kenzo left much to be desired. Starting with the playful boldness that the brand’s founder was beloved for.

Paris S/S 24 Menswear: Day Four

Ernest W. Baker, Marine Serre, Kiko Kostadinov

Looking at a group of independent brands who have spent the last few years expertly perfecting their distinct points of views our editorial duo start by breaking down Kiko Kostadinov‘s exploration of young-manhood. His irreverent take on sartorial codes plucked from school uniforms and theatre. Ernest W. Baker similarly presented a sentimental take on menswear while Marine Serre’ eco-futuristic designs put sustainability at the forefront with her upcycled designs modelled by musical titans like Teyana Taylor and Miguel.
