Illustration Gallery: S/S 20 Haute Couture
I’ve titled this series Momentum as I am exploring momentum as a drawing practice whilst immersing completely in one of the most inspired sources of human-made creativity and beauty. Fashion drawing is my foundation as an artist. I am also a dancer. I am continually moving between fluidity and containment. Mastery is about holding these polarities simultaneously. Momentum is freedom grounded in discipline and skill.
Drawing Couture S/S 20 for SHOWstudio is the ideal vessel to express and explore the most far-reaching possibilities for drawing fashion. With Momentum, I am moving as far into the fine art realms of abstraction and emotional context without leaving the supreme elegance and structure of the couture behind. I am glorifying what is inherently and abundantly full of grace and femininity. Extreme femininity is one kind of feminism. I love this kind.
Momentum is the colourful compliment to Nightlight, the black and white series I created in residency live-streamed from SHOWstudio last Spring. I want to thank Nick Knight and Bex Cassie who continue to provide me with the ultimate venue to express limitlessly artfully and beautifully. I am grateful to the magnificent Paris couturiers whose dreams touch the beyond, who give form to the deities that seemingly come from another world down the runway to grace and inspire. Drawing these extraordinary beings is the most uplifting and joyous experience. With Momentum, the art of drawing fashion continues to evolve and inspire along with the haute couture.
