Continuation. That was the theme of Astrid Andersen’s S/S 18 show. She’s got her groove - sportswear enlivened by intriguing colour palettes, slightly off-beat fabrics and luxe finishes. If it’s not broken, why fix it? Andersen clearly doesn’t feel pressured to reinvent the wheel. Indeed, her show notes talked of the collection being imbued with a 'quiet sense of peace and calm'. No surprise there - this was Andersen doing what Andersen does best. The signature lace? Check. The Oriental fabrics? Check. The heavy branding? Of course.
Her most valuable asset remains her ability to bring 'feminine' aspects into the menswear she creates. Today’s palette was especially saccharine, mixed perfectly in ice-cream, candy shades to offset the macho nature of her silhouettes. Many of these nodded to the historical or traditional dress of the many different cultures of people who inhabit London. Robes were layered in with tracksuits and parkas. A intriguing mix, fit for the many men who look good in Astrid Andersen.
