It occurred to me while watching Diane von Furstenberg take her bow - a term so insubstantial to describe the joy it emits into the universe that it should be banned and replaced with a Broadway musical - that there must be a parallel universe out there where instead of Donald Trump running for President of these United States of America, Diane does. Wouldn’t that be spectacular? After all, she has both the business acumen and a library’s worth of words of wisdom to share with the world. And, according to her show notes, this season she is ‘celebrating truth’, a very presidential thing to do. Move over, Kanye – DVF 2020. Admit it, it has a ring to it.
Instead of colour block pantsuits, Diane gave us a magpie nest of a collection – bright pinks and fuchsias were paired with a mash-up of prints and shiny gold lamé. The girls – Karlie, Kendall, Gigi, Lily and others in the first-name-only club – had flowers in their big wavy hair and sugary pastel make-up and wore, in no particular order: wrap dresses, tweed jackets, boho tunics, palazzo trousers, metallic suede safari rompers and butterfly-strewn gowns. As always, there were plenty of great pieces to be found hanging on the rails once this collection hits the stores, like the mixed floral print dresses and a contrasting blue palm print on a blazer and cropped trousers. Now, back to Diane in the White House…
