In her interpretation of the Spring/Summer 2014 season’s penchant for the natural elements, Angela Missoni refreshingly steered clear of florals and turned to more powerful forces. Sea and sky prints of waves and seagulls opened the show to the trancey tones of The Orb’s Little Fluffy Clouds, the constellation of which made for a somewhat breezy experience amplified by the spacious surroundings of La Fabbrica del Vapore, which had been decked out with huge wooden espaliers mimicking the zigzag motif of Missoni’s trademark knit pattern.

While certain components such as metallic frills in a stripy top or the geometrical ‘Missonia’ print added some unexpected youthful vibes to the collection, the overall feeling was predominantly mature. It was due to a sense of poetry, or perhaps thoughtfulness, which could be attributed to this year’s tragic event in the Missoni family. It wasn’t a dismal collection, but considering the vibrancy the house could have brought to a season like this, you could say it was a slightly low-spirited one.
