It’s not easy to show a collection of florals and pastels the day after Rochas blows the assembled fashion press away with theirs, and you couldn’t help but feel a little bad for Guillaume Henry, whose Spring/Summer 2014 collection for Carven had its moments but not quite the same impact. It all felt a bit like the trend pages of a weekly fashion tabloid: girlie staples like hot skirts and cute shorts, florals and camouflage made for street style pictures, and a Western segment towards the end, which offered some excellent pieces for the fashion-forward young Carven wearer, but seemed a little out of a place amongst all the other stuff.

But in a totally subversive way, the best part of the collection appeared in this prairie segment in the shape of three super girlie, super cutesy black and white floral dresses, which looked like something Kelly Taylor could have worn on Beverly Hills, 90210. It added a sense of something deeper than just trends to a collection, which overall wasn’t that bad but just a little deflated.
