Recent seasons have seen Yamamoto remain in his calming comfort zone crafting beautiful baggy silhouettes for his loyal clientele. However for his Spring 2013 collection the designer seemed to have refocused his collection and set on attracting a younger, possibly more violent customer.
Bruised boys with black eyes, cut lips and scratches on their faces strode the runway suggesting a newly found vitality from Yamamoto. Sporting baggy drawstring pants, models wore two-button jackets and extra long coats. A lively palette of orange, pink, blue and cream bought a dynamic fresher vibe to the proceedings and bought Yamamoto’s vocabulary back into focus.
The previous calm nonchalance that had defined Yamamoto’s recent shows has been replaced with a fresher energy and Yamamoto’s new diversion is promising – it perhaps just needs to go that little bit further.
