The new summer collection by Humberto & Carol for Kenzo was a fun jungle jaunt. Inspired by the Jungle Jap store that opened on Paris in 1970 the design duo took the concept and modernized it for a contemporary Kenzo customer.
Combining their New York home with their new perceptions of Paris the designers explored the urban sensibilities between the two capitals and fused it with a recent visit to the jungles of Asia.
As flying acrobats jump-started the show a super cool collection followed adorned with tigers, leopards and crocodiles. Bold prints, patterns and textures, beading and embroidery were all used in subtle combination to create an upbeat and youthful collection.
Function was core for the clothes as baggy-shorts, pleated trousers, sweat shirts, wide shorts and jungle and safari jackets all offered an easy urban wardrobe. A Kenzo camouflage print confirmed one of the key trends of the season and accessories utilized tiger stripes and Velcro straps for practical ease.
With a retro slant, Humberto & Carol is successfully encouraging the Kenzo brand to appeal to a wide reaching audience. Their reference to Kenzo’s sophisticated and confident use of colour fused with a nod to the 70s is easy on the eye and will ensure the newly rejuvenated label will spreads its wing to the jungle and beyond.
