Korean designer Juun J presented another modern take on tailoring with his collection entitled “DU_AL” that explored the concept of taking two ideas and uniting them. By placing oversized shapes with slimmer leaner lines, Juun J paraded an army of suited youths in variations of sartorial uniforms.

Citing inspiration from the 1948 Japanese film noir “Drunken Angel’ Juun J was informed by the dark alleys of post war Tokyo. The result saw 40’s silhouettes exaggerated in varying proportions to create oversized silhouettes. These exaggerated masculine shapes, coupled with a strict palette of black, white and orange, evidenced Juun J’s excellent technical ability in production techniques and dexterous use of fabric. Suits worked in Neoprene gave garments a sci-fi feel.

This modernist approach was most successful when stripped back, but when looks became over-complicated they were less successful. An assortment of brave news ideas by Juun J who is clearly not short of menswear viewpoints – some editing would perhaps provide a clearer and more straightforward vision.
