Jonathan Saunders drew huge crowds to his fourth menswear presentation at the appropriate Elms Lesters Painting Rooms. Invitees jostled to view models proudly lounging on reflective benches sporting round coloured glasses and slicked hair.

Musician David Bowie inspired Sauder’s painterly clothes as the icon’s confident use of colour, texture and print was featured on a varied of enviable clothing. Classically cut pinstriped blazers in bright hues and geometric patterns emblazoned on shirts were strikingly bold. Polka dots, geometric fades of colour, short-sleeve shirts, twinsets, T-shirts, casual jackets, intricately woven knitwear and sharp suiting were all drenched in pop hues.

Clearly there were a lot of ingredients to the offering but the collection was essentially a similar proposition as the designer’s women’s line – concerned with an innovative use of textiles and a acute ability to balance colour effectively. Saunders’s confidence in execution was clear and this rock-n-roll ensemble retained his signature colour mastery in a masculine context. The collection was smart and its resonance will influence beyond the fashion week enclave.
