The Eckhaus Latta show notes told us to 'gird our loins.' They spoke to Melania and Karen and told them to 'just slide the pillow over their faces and push as hard as you can.' They envisioned 'Lady Liberty in a foam crown.' Everything must go at some point, the designers suggested.
Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta began their A/W 17 collection and the offerings that followed spoke to our fragile, violent moment. Picture earthy, almost granola-like knits and shimmering pink turtlenecks; grass green slacks; a black satin mini skirt; and Collier Schorr walking the runway in a grey hand-knit sweater with patches reading 'Is This What You Wanted.' There were sunny, Lisa Frank-style florals. High slits on satin skirts. Fire hydrant orange jumpers and cozy mohair warp mini skirting.
The collection was strong and natural. The message was subtle (unlike the notes) and the brightness of it belied a dark, rebellious moment. 'Is This What You Wanted?' Only in apparel.
