Some designers struggle to fill a fashion show. Diane von Furstenberg struggles to stay within its parameters. It can’t contain her – she’s danced and sang and handed out flowers, flags and kisses. So, upon entering this evening’s ‘experience’ at DVF HQ in the Meatpacking District you couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. Yes, the tableaus of models walking through doors and shuffling paperwork at their desks were entertaining enough (9 to 5 by DVF?) and the collection looked great but where was Diane? Diane, it turns out, was upstairs dancing and singing along to We Are Family by Sister Sledge alongside a coterie of the most wanted girls in fashion today. Kendall and Gigi, Karlie and Jourdan and Lily were all there, loving life and loving Diane who now and then would stop and take a selfie with the guests in the audience – she even got Carine Roitfeld to join them on the pink lips sofa.
As for the clothes? Distinctly Seventies and unmistakably DVF – there were wrap dresses and long, tiered boho ones paired with knee-high boots, a geometric scarf-tie blouse looked great with a brown suede skirt and the gowns upstairs popped and sparkled as much as the champagne did. That was fun!
