More than 20 years ago, when I was a (very) young mother, I liked to make clothes for my kids out of vintage materials. Having not much money to spend it became a kind of sport to look for nice fabrics, some of them already used one way or the other, of which I made new clothes. Those were the Eighties.
Years went by, my kids grew up and ofcourse did not want to wear those 'silly things made by mom' anymore. While making a career as a nurse I had no time but for work and study.
Finally I was burned out and had a major depression. Due to this a friend asked me what kind of things made me happy before, when I was younger and not yet so very busy. I did not have to think a long time for the answer: making clothes and 'painting with fabrics' made me happy.
So that's what I started to do, again. This time not because I had to dress my kids, but just for fun. To find joy for living again.
Two years ago I started selling children's wear and bags in my webshop Bags & Rags. I design women's skirts and restyle denim jackets as well. My favourite item is: Like-Daughter-Like-Mother-skirts. I make them on demand with preferred colours. But all my designs are made with joy and love, as you can see yourself. They make me happy! The theme of the MODE BIENNALE ARNHEM 2007, "Happy Fashion" is so much the Bags & Rags-style.
Every time when I find a piece of old retro fabric, embroidery, curtain, tablecloth, dress, coat, or whatever kind of textiles, it makes me happy. But even more happy I am, when working and designing in 'my paradise', surrounded by all these very inspiring colours and materials.
Last weekend, on June 2nd, my workshop had been opened for visitors. That's when I met Fred Butler, one of the Contributors of Showstudio.com.
Feel free to contact me if you want more information. My workshop is situated in Arnhem, Utrechtsestraat 35. I'll be honoured to show you my work and materials!
